Designing reports with impact for YMCA Derbyshire

Keeping it visual.

The YMCA is an iconic worldwide movement which has been supporting young people for more than 150 years. Its affiliated charity in Derbyshire provides advice and practical help on issues including accommodation, wellbeing, education and employment.

A document design project.

The New Fat team produced an annual impact report for YMCA Derbyshire, summarising their work over the previous year.

Branded document design by The New Fat.

With such a well-known organisation, it was important to comply with the YMCA brand on colours and other design elements. However, we wanted to create a document that that didn’t rely on the usual slightly predictable corporate annual report format.

Enhanced leaflet design.

Our creative instincts took us away from a conventional leaflet design and print. Instead, we adopted a gatefold style, so that the report opened up to reveal a central graphic representing the road ahead. With the different paths open to young people clearly identified.

Around this we added easy-to-read statistics and quotes, highlighting what Derbyshire YMCA had achieved. Triangles and angled panels were used to tie in with the charity’s established visual identity.

Other work with YMCA.

The 2018/19 report was so well received that we were asked to produce another just a few months later, about training and education. We applied the same design formula to convey a whole new set of information.

Client Feedback

“I’ve never experienced such an enjoyable process in terms of producing an annual report until I worked with The New Fat team. They understood the brief and objectives right away, and so amends were always minimal. The team make it easy to produce high-quality and engaging communications materials and ensure that it’s fun along the way. We would highly recommend The New Fat – they are a wonderfully creative team with innovative ideas. We really do love our annual reports! ”
